Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get
Moana stock from Canby, Oregon to my loading dock?
Normally, it is up to
the customer to arrange shipping. If you are unsure where or how to secure a
truck - or just not having luck, Moana Nursery can assist you by contacting
trucking brokers to arrange delivery. If we can find a truck that will haul to
your location, we run the freight rate by you (customer) before ordering the
delivery. Most of the time, freight is C.O.D. or on approved credit - net 10
days. Freight cost is solely the responsibility of the customer (you).
How do I
know what
linear footage is required for the material I want?
Once an order is set
up, we will
calculate the footage required and provide it with your Order Acknowledgement.
Also included with all acknowledgements an approximate weight of the order. If
there are questions regarding footage or weight prior to your order, we can give
you an estimate and aid in filling out a truck order. There is no exact
certainty with estimates on material weight as some material are larger,
heavier, fuller, etc. than normal grade.
Shipping is calculated in units. Loads may vary depending on load configuration.
Use these formulas only as a guideline. Formula used for configurations (166
units per foot)

What do we mean
by "transplanted and double transplanted" stock?
For the most part, all of our field grown stock has been "root pruned" by being
physically moved from one location to another as opposed to being root pruned on
just two sides in the field rows. This way 100% of the roots are cut to promote
a more fibrous, contained root system. Some of our stock has actually been moved
twice before leaving Moana Nursery.
How do we make the distinction between our ready and not ready material?
We do not consider a plant ready for sale until the roots are to the edge of the
container. Normally with our shade trees, we containerize a portion of them bare
root and a portion of them B&B. With our conifers, we can all of them B&B.
Though technically not ready, we can ship a B&B containerized plant before it is
root established. This aids in getting material shipped in the spring and early
summer. We use July 1, as an approximate date for our bare root trees to be root
established.
